When starting a home based business, There’s always the argument of…
“Should I work in the area I’m passionate about?”
or I don’t care, I just want to know…
“What is the fastest most profitable way to make money from home?”
In many cases it’s both.
Here’s a quick process to determine what to do.
First of all, if you don’t work in an area that you are passionate about you’ll find out very quickly that you will become very unmotivated to get the work done consistently on a daily basis week in and week out that your home business needs to make money.
You will procrastinate and thus find that your business isn’t bring in any money and is actually wasting your time and money and causing you to feel frustrated.
But on the same token if you don’t work a niche market that shows profitability you won’t make any money.
*Sidenote* You must understand that I am not here to teach you to create a hobby or to have fun doing only what you love, but to show you how to make money in an area that you are ecstatic about being in. I wanted you to understand this because that is the background, or undertone of what I am talking about in this article.
So how do you balance the two?
How do you work a market that is profitable, but at the same time is extremely interesting to you?
A Small Sacrifice
Make a list of the niche topics you are passionate about. Activities, hobbies, organizations, and businesses that you spend time and money on.
Then check to see which of these topics have the greatest chance of spitting out money. You can do this by finding if there are products successfully being sold in those markets, looking at topics on the covers of popular magazines and books, and in places where news and buzz start.
If you find a match then great, do a test ad to see if this market will indeed make you money.
If you don’t find a match then do what Mr. Sugerman calls Harmonize. Sell a product that is most closely related to what the market is already buying, creating harmony with the market. It doesn’t have to be exactly in the niche that you passionately desire to work, but should be in the same general category.
How to make your mark and work your dreams
In essence you Sell what the market wants and then use the fame to go after your dreams. There are two lessons to be learned here:
1. It’s most important, if you want to make any money, that you sell what the market has already proven that they want to buy.
2. That if you want a fun, motivated life full of enjoyment you must work an niche you are passionate about.
