To Use or Not To Use Online Translation Tools

July 30, 2008 by Kimberly Edwards

I read a neat post today @: How to Use Online Translation Tools

I found it from the “Dessert Course” of the Blog Carnival we’re hosting on BlogNButter.com:

Welcome to Dessert - “Soup to Nuts 3? Progressive Dinner Blog Carnival

It’s a great rundown of using online translation tools, how they are fabulous, and where they lack.

Basically, they should not be used for direct translation into other languages of your copy writing, but can be used for research of other websites and markets. Also, it is good so that you can get through an article for mere understanding.

What’s My Opinion?:

“I can see where there are some serious discrepancies in the translation back and forth from language to language…

I think the “back and forth” method works extremely well to give you a better idea of how the tool works.

Obviously, different tools work better than others, but this is a good generality.

It is a useful tool for information and educational purposes, but I agree with Cindy, they should never be used for writing copy!

Also, thank you so much for submitting this entry into the “Dessert Course” in the Blog Carnival at BlogNButter.com

If you want an alternative to automatic translation tools, you can try creating a multilingual widget at http://www.lingotip.com. You can either translate your text yourself (and then it’s free) or use one of the freelance translators.
